Cultural Sensitivity: Health Disparities Assignment
There are many reasons why certain populations in our global society have diverse health outcomes. One major reason is whether or not a person has health insurance to coverage their health care (and access to proper health care).
Describe one strategy you would use as a professional nurse to influence and make policymakers aware of these issues to improve health outcomes. Why did you answer this way?
Health Disparities in a Diverse Population: Cultural Sensitivity Health disparities in the United States have continued to widen as the gap between rich and poor grows wider in society. Describe one strategy you would use as a professional nurse to influence and make policymakers aware To put it another way, Porche (2017) believes that nurses have become more conscious of the difficulties facing the health-care system, as well as the need for change. Many nurses have been inspired to become advocates as a result of their own personal experiences as registered nurses who are currently in practice. However, there are a variety of strategies that a nurse can use to exert influence over policy, including lobbying decision-makers. At the end of the day, lobbying decision makers is the most effective strategy a nurse can employ, as evidenced by the widespread acceptance of its benefits. Policymakers should be lobbied in order to influence their decisions. Describe one strategy you would use as a professional nurse to influence and make policymakers aware This is particularly important because it ensures that the final version of a policy captures substantive disparity issues that affect the health care industry (Barber, 2017). The use of lobbying ensures that nurses have an impact on the people who are important when it comes to the policy-making process, which is essential. Because lobbying is a two-way street, a nurse can always use it to either support or oppose a policy by engaging in lobbying. The ability to either oppose or support a policy ensures that the policy under consideration will attempt to address the challenges that the health care industry faces, such as a lack of coverage. Describe one strategy you would use as a professional nurse to influence and make policymakers awareLobbying is also important because it ensures that policies that are detrimental to the widening of health disparities in the system are discarded and that a more appropriate policy is adopted.
The current nurse chose lobbying because it is at the heart of the policy-making process, which she believes is important. Unlike other methodologies, which have an impact on the policy-making process when it is in its early stages, lobbying has an impact on the process when it is at its most critical stage, when it is enacted into law. Describe one strategy you would use as a professional nurse to influence and make policymakers awareAs a result, the current nurse will ensure that only a version of a policy that addresses health disparities is passed by lobbying politicians and policy-makers.
